CFD O’Hare apparatus updates

At O’Hare Airport, there are several new emergency response vehicles either recently added or in the planning stages. A brand-new ambulance, designated as #26, has been integrated into Rescue 1’s fleet. Additionally, new ambulances for units #16 and #59 are anticipated to arrive shortly. The Aviation Department has signed a five-year agreement with Oshkosh for the procurement of up to eight Striker ARFF units. The initial vehicle, expected in August, will be a 3000-gallon, 6×6 model, quite similar to other units currently in operation at O’Hare. Another unit of the same configuration is scheduled to arrive by the end of 2010. Future units may include two larger 4500-gallon, 8×8 models, depending on any potential changes in FAA regulations. A significant mobile ventilation unit, designed to enhance air circulation during emergencies, is currently being procured. Furthermore, plans are underway to develop a new mobile command post, identified as 2-7-8. Rescue 3 at O’Hare now features a newly installed rehab unit, numbered 5-7-3. Meanwhile, Mass Casualty Unit 8-8-1 at Rescue 1 is currently operational using a repurposed Bluebird bus. Battalion 6 has acquired a 2010 Ford Expedition, and both units 2-9-9 and 2-9-11 have received new 2010 Ford F150 4-door pickup trucks equipped with bed covers. Attached below are images of these new additions. The first image showcases CFD O'Hare's Mass Casualty Bus 881, while the second depicts Chicago Ambulance 26.
