On March 1, 2018, the Countryside Fire Protection District, along with neighboring departments, responded to a basement fire at 4867 Pond View Court in Long Grove. Upon arrival, crews made an interior attack but were forced to retreat due to compromised and collapsing first-floor structures. Despite a hydrant being available in the cul-de-sac, 400 feet of large-diameter hose (LDH) was stretched to the end of the street, where two portable tanks were set up for tanker operations. Libertyville Engine 462 drew water from the portable tanks to supply Mundelein Engine 432 positioned in front of the home. Both Countryside engines, their tanker, and the tower ladder were also stationed in front of the house.
Fire spread from the basement to the second floor but was quickly brought under control. One firefighter sustained a shoulder injury and was transported to a local hospital. The scene was chaotic yet well-coordinated, with multiple units working together to manage the situation. The fire’s intensity and rapid spread highlighted the importance of quick response and strategic resource deployment.
