After years of fierce competition, the domestic LED packaging market has matured. The competitiveness of a number of leading domestic packaging enterprises has been continuously enhanced and their scale has been continuously expanded. They are not weaker than the LED packaging enterprises in foreign countries and Taiwan in terms of domestic market competitiveness and independent intellectual property rights. In terms of packaging, domestic companies already have the same strength as international LED companies.
As far as the current mature packaging industry is concerned, there is not much difference in the technical aspects of various LED packaging companies in China. The only difference is the size of the company's production capacity, the consistency between product batches, and the difference in product reliability. As manufacturers with financial strength and technical strength continue to expand their scale and increase R&D investment, the steps between domestic LED packaging companies will gradually take shape, and the living space of small packaging enterprises will be compressed.
The strength of the LED packaging industry has clearly identified the need for the elimination of the elimination game. Ye Weifu, chairman of the company, said that the LED upstream epitaxial plant has been consolidated in the past two years, and has reached its peak in this year's Sanan. He pointed out that there are many upstream epitaxial factories in the mainland, but there are not many strong ones. Although the mainland packaging factories have a rising trend, the current orders are limited to Chinese lighting brands, and international lighting manufacturers are still placing orders.
Even mainland TV brands such as Haier, Konka, Chuangwei, etc. use more LEDs in Taiwan and South Korea, mainly because of the higher level of backlight technology.
Differentiated companies may have a way out of existing packaging technologies and processes that are insufficient to support continued cost reductions and require revolutionary technological breakthroughs. Due to the small scale, insufficient funds and lack of upstream technical support, the domestic LED packaging enterprises are currently conservative in the research and development of new technologies, and are generally in a wait-and-see period. In the short term, the price of LED packaging products will decline, and companies with economies of scale and robust upstream chip supply chain will have certain comparative advantages in the competition.
However, the chairman of the board of directors, Jane Feng, also said that LED products must have technical advantages and be able to make differentiated products. For example, there are three major products in the next round, which can make a clear difference with the mainland epitaxial wafer factory, including flip chip packaging, high voltage LED, and package-free chips. These new technologies have significant cost savings and high gross margins because they do not require wire and leadframes or can replace the entire power supply with a single driver IC.
