Cao Guoqing said that as of January 2 this year, there were 1,877 lead storage battery companies that had obtained production licenses. According to the figures released by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, as of March 22, only 315 companies were still producing.
However, the reduced number of companies did not result in a reduction in capacity. In the first quarter of this year, the lead battery industry's output increased by 17.4% year-on-year. Cao Guoqing said that the figure includes the output of small and medium-sized enterprises outside the statistics in the past.
