House fire in Orland Park, 8-7-24

Excerpts from patch.com:

The Orland Fire Protection District responded to multiple calls about a garage fire in the 8900 block of Oakdale Court on Wednesday just before 5 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered heavy flames coming from the garage of a single-family home, with the fire spreading into the second-floor bedroom and the attic.

Firefighters launched a rapid attack to contain the blaze and successfully extinguished a fence that was also on fire between the garage and a neighboring house. The residents managed to escape through a rear door, according to initial reports.

A full still alarm was activated to bring in additional personnel and equipment to the scene, as well as to provide backup for the Orland stations. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital due to heat exhaustion and was later released after treatment.

The home is now considered uninhabitable, and the Orland Fire District's Origin and Cause Team is investigating the cause of the fire. Several other departments, including Palos, Tinley Park, Palos Heights, Lemont, North Palos, Homer, and Mokena, provided support in terms of staffing and coverage during the incident.
