The Orland Fire Protection District received multiple calls about a garage fire in the 8900 block of Oakdale Court on Wednesday just before 5 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found a significant blaze coming from the garage of a single-family home, with flames spreading into the second-floor bedroom and attic.
Firefighters quickly launched a coordinated attack to bring the fire under control, including extinguishing a fence that was also on fire between the garage and a neighboring house. The swift response helped prevent the fire from spreading further.
All residents safely evacuated through a rear door, according to officials. No injuries were reported at the scene.
A full still alarm was activated to send additional personnel and equipment to the location, as well as to provide backup for the Orland Fire Protection District stations. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital due to heat exhaustion and later released after treatment.
The affected home is currently not safe for occupancy, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Orland Fire District’s Origin and Cause Team. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Additional support was provided by fire departments from Palos, Tinley Park, Palos Heights, Lemont, North Palos, Homer, and Mokena, ensuring a strong and coordinated response to the emergency.
