EU wind power will double in the next 10 years

Xinhua News Agency, Brussels, August 3 (Reporter Wang Xiaojun, Wang Yingying) The medium- and long-term plans released by the European Wind Energy Association show that wind power capacity in the EU countries is expected to grow at least twice in the next 10 years, and total investment in onshore and offshore wind farms will reach 194 billion euros (about 277.7 billion U.S. dollars).

According to this plan, the EU's wind power capacity in 2020 will reach 581 billion kWh, accounting for 15.7% of the total electricity consumption, while the EU's wind power output in 2010 will be 182 billion kWh, accounting for 5.5% of total electricity consumption in the year.

In 2020, the European Union’s wind power capacity is expected to be equivalent to the total electricity consumption of all households in France, Germany, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom. In 2030, it will increase to 115.4 billion kWh, equivalent to 241 million households in the European Union. The total amount of electricity used occupies 28% of the total electricity. At present, wind power output is equivalent to the total electricity consumption of 50 million households in the EU.

The European Commission will announce the "2050 Energy Roadmap" before the end of this year, which will determine the direction of energy development in EU countries. Justin Wilks, director of European Wind Energy Association policy, believes that the current rapid development of EU wind power is mainly due to the EU’s strong energy policy. He hopes that these policies will continue after 2020.

Wilkes said that wind power not only can greatly help the EU fulfill its international commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also help the EU reduce its dependence on expensive fossil fuels, create jobs, improve economic competitiveness, and achieve EU security and renewable Energy production.

The European Wind Energy Association estimates that EU countries will invest 194 billion euros in the construction of wind power stations between 2011 and 2020. Wind power generation not only helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also helps the EU to change its energy structure and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

The European Union has already determined the development goal of renewable energy, that by 2020, 20% of electricity consumption will come from renewable energy sources.

The European Wind Energy Association also predicts that the five countries with the fastest growth in wind power output in EU countries in the next 10 years will be Ireland (52%), Denmark (38%), Portugal (28%), Spain (27%) and Greece ( twenty three%).
