China's tire exports to the EU meet new environmental protection threshold

The reporter learned from the Nanjing Inspection and Quarantine Bureau on November 9, 2011 that the strict detection of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the EU has caused China's tire exports to the European Union to run into a new environmental threshold.

According to reports, on October 17 this year, the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) announced the results of the second batch of spot checks on the content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in tires on the EU market. A total of 9 tires exceeded the limit of 9 brands. Of these, 9 are from China. Previously, of the first spot checks announced on March 1 this year, 12 unqualified tires were produced in China. Recently, ETRMA once again urged the EU and its member states to increase the regulatory and enforcement of PAH limits in tires, which has made the situation of China's tire exports to the EU aggravate.

Jiangsu is an important base for tire production in China. Tire exports account for 15% of the country's total, ranking second in the country. In 2010, Jiangsu exported 1.36 billion U.S. dollars of tires, of which exports accounted for 26.9% of the European Union. The European Union has become the largest market for exports of tires in Jiangsu. To this end, the Nanjing Inspection and Quarantine Bureau reminded relevant companies to be highly vigilant about the risk of excessive levels of PAHs. The Bureau will provide enterprises with more technical services to safeguard the reputation of China’s export tires.
