Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 1-28-17 (part 3)

The fire occurred around 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 28, 2017. It was a large, old home from the 1800s located at 45th and Ellis. I arrived just after the 5th Battalion had contained the fire. From what I could see, the fire was primarily in the attic area. The adjacent property was reported to be vacant and in poor condition, but the fire remained confined to the original occupied structure.

The scene was intense, with thick smoke rising from the roof and firefighters working quickly to control the blaze. Several engine companies and a tower ladder were seen on the scene, while the fire chief was present directing operations. One of the photos shows a firefighter with a soot-covered face, clearly showing the effort involved. Another image captures a new firefighter in training, demonstrating the ongoing presence and commitment of the Chicago Fire Department.
