Late last Tuesday afternoon, on May 25th, 2021, firefighters from Park Ridge were called to respond to a car fire that had broken out in a carport next to a house located at 2023 Milton Avenue. Upon their arrival, they encountered a severe fire situation that was rapidly spreading towards the house. Strong winds were blowing at the time, posing a significant threat of the flames jumping to neighboring homes. This quickly escalating emergency prompted the initial response to be upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm.
The firefighting effort involved not only all available Park Ridge units but also support from neighboring departments such as Niles and Des Plaines. Units dispatched to the scene included Schiller Park Engine 5, Wheeling Engine 42, Northfield Squad 29, Des Plaines Squad 63, and Morton Grove Squad 4. For medical backup, North Maine Ambulance 1, Niles Ambulance 2, and Des Plaines Ambulance 62 were on standby. Additionally, several chief officers coordinated the operation, including North Maine Battalion 1, Des Plaines Battalion 61, Morton Grove Battalion 4, Schiller Park Battalion 5, and Niles Battalion 2.
Steve Redick provided an update, mentioning that there would be a video available soon for further details. In the meantime, I've attached some images taken by Larry Shapiro that capture the intensity of the incident.
