The Wilmette Fire Department hosted an open house on Saturday morning, May 18th, 2019. The event featured a variety of antique fire apparatus and provided residents with a chance to see the newly arrived Engine 27. After a brief presentation, the engine was ceremoniously pushed into the station by active and retired firefighters, marking a proud moment for the department.
Engine 27 is a 2019 Pierce Dash CF PUC, unit number 32569. It is equipped with a 1500-GPM pump, 750 gallons of water, and a foam cell that can hold either 20 or 30 gallons. The engine also includes a 35-foot ground ladder and will serve as Engine 26 when the tower ladder is out of service. It will be stationed at Station 27, while the previous 2013 E-One engine will be converted into a reserve unit.
Several photos were taken during the event, including one featuring Fire Chief Ben Wozney and another showing the new engine being pushed into the station. Additional images capture the pride and excitement of the firefighters as they posed with their new equipment.
The department recently sold its reserve tower ladder and is currently advertising another engine for sale. This move reflects ongoing efforts to modernize and maintain a strong, well-equipped fire response team for the community.
