The Moreland family, who owns the McDonald’s in West Frankfort, recently organized a unique fundraiser that supported the local fire department for the first time. This event marked a new chapter for the family, as they have previously hosted fundraisers but never specifically for emergency services.
During the event, firefighters were actively involved, helping take orders, preparing food, and even sharing a meal with the community. A total of 20% of all proceeds from the event went directly to the fire department. In addition to selling cookies, the team also accepted donations, which ultimately raised $1,132.51.
To make the event more engaging, several firetrucks were on display for the public to tour, allowing residents to get up close and personal with the vehicles that serve their community daily.
The Moreland family emphasized the importance of building relationships with firefighters through direct interaction. They believe that spending one-on-one time with first responders helps build trust and makes people feel more comfortable if they ever need assistance during an emergency.
West Frankfort Fire Chief Jody Allen expressed his gratitude for the support and hopes that this event will inspire others to consider a career in firefighting. He also mentioned that the funds raised will be used to purchase new equipment, with a portion of the money going toward a specialized training device to better prepare firefighters for real-life emergencies.
