This is from Steve Redick.
Recently, I responded to a call at a building that didn’t look too bad fire-wise, but there were a few interesting things going on. The structure was in really bad shape—some parts of the roof had already collapsed before the fire, and access was extremely limited. It’s kind of ironic that it wasn’t marked as a red X building. Still, I managed to capture some video and photos. One thing that stood out was a Chicago stripping ladder being used as a battering ram to remove the plywood window coverings. That’s a unique tool, mainly used in Chicago for pulling up roofing materials during ventilation, not for climbing. It's pretty cool to see in action. Also, Class A foam was used at this incident, which is always good to see. The crew had a spare snorkel, and even though it wasn’t fully utilized, there were some decent rig shots taken. It’s always interesting to document these types of operations, especially when you get to see equipment and tactics that aren't commonly seen elsewhere.Steve
