Box Alarm in Wilmette, 2-17-15

This is the first in a series of updates on the fire that occurred at the Womanâ€™s Club of Wilmette, located at 930 Greenleaf Avenue. The incident took place around 10:00 AM on February 17, 2015, after an automatic fire alarm was triggered. Fire crews from Wilmette responded quickly and arrived on scene to find smoke coming through the roof, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a Code 4â€”indicating a working fire.

By the time firefighters arrived, all occupants had safely evacuated the building. Initial efforts included an interior attack, but crews were forced to pull back due to the intensity of the flames. As the situation escalated, additional units were called in, resulting in a Box Alarm for more resources.

A significant number of emergency units were deployed, including four aerial ladder trucks: Wilmette Tower 26, Northbrook Tower 12, Evanston Truck 23, and Morton Grove Quint 4. Pumping engines such as Wilmette Engine 27 and Winnetka Engine 28 were also on site. Other responding units included engines from Lincolnwood and Glenview, trucks from Northfield and Des Plaines, a Skokie squad, both Wilmette ambulances, the Mess Canteen, MABAS Division 3 Comm 3, and several chief officers.
