This report comes from Mike Lopina:
Shortly after 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 7th, Calumet Park and auto aid units were dispatched for a fire at the intersection of 127th and Justine. Chief 2200 was among the first to arrive, spotting smoke coming from the rear of a one-story, 20x20 office/utility building attached to a 35x70, three-story residential apartment over a store. Cal Park Truck 2224 followed shortly after, heading to the rear and laying the main line to the roof. Garden Homes, Marionette Park, Robbins, Alsip engines, and a Posen ambulance all responded, along with Riverdale’s acting chief and a Marionette Park deputy chief. Riverdale and Blue Island had to take alternate routes due to traffic.
It was interesting to see Garden Homes respond second to this fire, ahead of most other units, and immediately get to work. This building had previously gone through a major renovation following a significant fire around six or seven years ago. It's clear that the rehab was successful, but it still serves as a reminder of how quickly things can change in the fire service.
