Working fire in Calumet City, 1-5-21

This report comes from Rob G (Gfdrob):

On January 5, 2021, around 09:00 hours, at 31-154th Place, Lauer’s Tap, a 20×60 one-story ordinary building. The initial call was for a smoke investigation. Engine 11 arrived and found heavy smoke coming from the structure. Engine 11 attempted to advance a line through the front door, but deteriorating conditions and a soft floor made it impossible to proceed. The lines were pulled back, and defensive operations were initiated. A total of four engine companies along with the SH T-43 master stream worked the fire from the exterior.

It was a tough call with limited visibility inside. The building had a weak floor, which made any interior attack risky. Fire crews had to work from the outside, using the master stream to knock down the flames. It's always concerning when a fire gets that far before being controlled. I snapped a few photos from a safe distance—nothing too close, just documenting what was happening. Hopefully, no one was injured, and the structure can be repaired or rebuilt soon. This kind of incident reminds us how quickly things can go bad in a fire scenario.
