The Waukegan Fire Department has recently joined the MABAS Division 4 listings, marking the final and largest department in the county to be added. With five fire stations and over 28 pieces of apparatus, Waukegan is well-equipped to serve its community. Each station is staffed with an ALS rescue unit, and four engine companies operate across the district. At Station 4, a 105-foot Pierce quint works alongside Rescue 1644, providing essential emergency services.
In addition to standard firefighting resources, Waukegan offers specialized units for regional support. The bomb squad, based at Station 1 in an annex building, provides containment capabilities for both Lake and McHenry Counties. The department also maintains a dive team, hazmat unit, a large squad, and a 6x6 ARFF vehicle stationed at the Waukegan Regional Airport.
Waukegan’s fleet includes Seagrave and KME engines, a Pierce and Seagrave aerial ladder, and a variety of ambulances from Medtec, Wheeled Coach, and Taylor Made. These vehicles ensure comprehensive emergency response capabilities across the city.
