The Waukegan Fire Department has officially joined the MABAS Division 4 listings, marking the final addition of the county's departments. As the largest department in the area, Waukegan operates five fire stations equipped with over 28 pieces of apparatus. Each station is staffed with an ALS rescue unit, and four engine companies are on duty at all times. Notably, Waukegan Station 4 houses a 105-foot Pierce quint along with Rescue 1644.

Waukegan also provides specialized services to both Lake and McHenry Counties, including a bomb squad based out of an annex at Station 1. This unit includes a containment vessel for hazardous situations. In addition, the department maintains a dive team, hazmat unit, a large squad, and a 6×6 ARFF vehicle stationed at the Waukegan Regional Airport.

The department’s fleet includes Seagrave and KME engines, a Pierce and Seagrave aerial ladder, and a variety of ambulances from Medtec, Wheeled Coach, and Taylor Made. These vehicles ensure that Waukegan is well-equipped to handle a wide range of emergency responses.

With such a diverse and well-maintained fleet, the Waukegan Fire Department continues to serve its community with professionalism and efficiency. Their inclusion in MABAS Division 4 further strengthens regional cooperation and preparedness.
