FAW-Volkswagen Enhances Powertrain Supporting Strength

Recently, FAW-Volkswagen has begun to take shape with the breakthrough in the field of powertrain and the nationwide layout of the three major production bases. The company’s system capacity and overall strength have achieved a qualitative leap, and the goal of vehicle development has been achieved by 2015. A solid step.

It is reported that on October 16th, FAW-Volkswagen’s Chengdu engine plant was completed in Chengdu. The EA211 to be put into production is China’s first engine to reach the Euro V emission standard, with an annual output of 450,000 units; on October 31st, FAW-Volkswagen MQ200 The transmission line was completed in Changchun, and the first MQ200 transmission was also officially launched, marking another major breakthrough in FAW-Volkswagen's powertrain field.

Layout powertrain optimization supply system

FAW-Volkswagen's director and general manager An Tiecheng stated at the MQ200 off-line ceremony: “FAW-Volkswagen has been upgrading its core powertrain production capacity and achieving sustainable development as a long-term strategy.” The EA211 engine and MQ200 transmission , is an important part of this strategy.

In July 2011, FAW-Volkswagen's Chengdu engine plant, which invested 2.8 billion yuan and covers an area of 160,000 square meters, broke ground. On October 16th this year, the engine plant was officially completed and it began to produce the first EA211 engine that has reached the Euro V standard and has a number of leading technologies. After the production capacity is completely released, the annual output can reach 450,000 units. The completion of the Chengdu engine plant not only enables FAW-Volkswagen to form a complete vehicle manufacturing industry chain in Chengdu, but also meets the needs of FAW-Volkswagen's three major production bases in Changchun, Chengdu and Foshan, and builds more optimized supply chain. This also marks that the nationwide layout of FAW-Volkswagen's three major production bases, including the engine plant, has begun to take shape. In addition, the EA211 engine produced in Chengdu will also supply German Volkswagen Konzern, indicating that this domestically produced engine fully complies with the unified standards of the German public.

The commissioning of the MQ200 is another milestone in FAW-Volkswagen's powertrain strategy. As the fifth MQ200 transmission line in the world, FAW-Volkswagen MQ200 production line adopts the world's top equipment, and the technological level is at the forefront of the industry. An Tiecheng said: "The commissioning of the MQ200 gearbox plant is of great significance in enhancing the FAW-Volkswagen transmission manufacturing method and improving the technological level, and has laid a solid foundation for the upgrading of passenger vehicle powertrains."

In the future, the production capacity of the two powertrain plants will gradually be released, providing strong support for FAW-Volkswagen's 2015 production target of 1.65 million vehicles.

Improve system capacity and implement R&D strategy

Since the establishment of the R&D strategic roadmap in 2006, FAW-Volkswagen has been building its own R&D system step by step. The company has invested billions of dollars in building research and development facilities such as modeling and virtual reality centers, pre-bulk centers, electronic and electrical centers, and vehicle safety centers. It has completed the appearance and interior of the new Bora, new Magotan, and new Sagitar models. Body development work. The new Bora downline marks FAW-Volkswagen's local development of the car body as planned this year.

Engines and transmissions are key components of the car. The domestic production of the EA211 engine and MQ200 transmission means that FAW-Volkswagen has reached the international advanced level in the manufacture and matching of powertrains. In addition to the powertrain, FAW-Volkswagen has also been working hard to improve R&D capabilities in design, electronics, and bodywork in recent years.

By 2014, the FAW-Volkswagen Vehicle Testing Ground will also be put into use. The test site has high-speed test runways, comprehensive performance test roads, durable alternation test roads and other test runways, and a complete set of supporting test facilities, which can fully meet the requirements of FAW-Volkswagen's product qualification test, as well as the development and identification of new automotive products. The requirements for certification and testing provide important experimental and database support for FAW-Volkswagen's vehicle development.
